In den 40er, 50er und 60er Jahren wurden vorzugsweise Untersuchungen bezüglich von Eltern-Kind-Beziehungen betrieben, da bei Kindern in der Zeit des Kalten Krieges mehr Betonung auf kognitive Prozesse der Leistungsorientierung gelegt wurde, als auf soziale Interaktionen (Rubin & Ross, 1982).
Im Rückblick auf die letzten Jahrzehnte, lässt sich in der Forschung jedoch ein steigendes Interesse an Freundschaftsbeziehungen feststellen. Im Gegensatz zu den Untersuchungen im Kindes- und Jugendalter, begann das systematische Studie-ren von Freundschaften bei Erwachsenen erst vor ca. forty Jahren. Eine mögliche Er-klärung hierfür ist die Erkenntnis, dass Freundschaften im Kindes- und Jugendalter hinsichtlich der weiteren Entwicklung des Individuums eine größere Bedeutung be-sitzen (Tokuno, 1986). Da sich die Erforschung von Freundschaft und deren Konzep-te hauptsächlich mit dem Kindes- und Jugendalter beschäftigte, gestalte ich dazu den größten Teil meiner Arbeit. Im zweiten Teil werden einige Befunde zu Konzepten über das Erwachsenenalter hinweg bis zum regulate referiert. Nach der ausführlichen Auseinandersetzung mit Freundschaftskonzepten versuche ich auf folgende Fragen eine Antwort zu finden: Entwickeln oder verändern sich Freundschaftskonzepte über das regulate hinweg?
